Eillien's Candies, Inc. Issues Voluntary Recall of Dry Roasted Pistachio Kernels (Not in Shell) Due to Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Green Bay, WI – (March 31, 2009) - Eillien's Candies Inc. is conducting a voluntary recall of the products listed below. This voluntary recall is being conducted as a precautionary measure due to the fact that the Pistachio Kernels used in these products contain Pistachio Nuts which are being recalled by Setton Pistachio Co. of Terra Bella, Inc. because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

  • Blain's Farm & Fleet 10oz Dry Roasted Pistachio Kernels UPC 34952-81792

  • Bulk Mixed Nuts with Pistachios 30# Box, Lot# 012309 / 031809 / 031909/ 920827
  • Bulk Pistachio Kernels 25# Box, Setton Farms FMO# 0208, 2507, 2738, 3258


The above products contain a sell by date prior to 4/1/10 and were sold in Grocery and Mass Merchants in IA, IL, MI, MN, ND, and WI.

The product listed above should not be consumed, but rather returned to the store for a refund or exchange.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Eillien's Candies, Inc. has not received any consumer or customer complaints on this product and there have been no reported illnesses associated with this product.
