Sweet Sisters, Inc. DBA Sweet Life Patisserie Announces an Expansion for their Recall of Brownies, Bars, Cookies, Pies, Tartlets, Cheesecakes, Tortes, Silks and Cakes Because of Possible Health Risk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 11, 2009 -- Sweet Sisters, Inc. DBA Sweet Life Patisserie of Eugene, Oregon is recalling all products made with whole or chopped peanuts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  The products were made using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of America because they may be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody) nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.   In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more sever illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms) endocarditis and arthritis.

Desserts with peanut products were distributed only in Eugene and Springfield, OR  through our retail store at 755 Monroe Street, Eugene, OR, or from one of the following stores; Sequential Biofuels Station, and  Supreme Bean.  Products were sold from July 20, 2007 through October 31, 2008.  Products are sold through display cases in the retail stores and have no specific lot, expiration, or UPC codes.

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.  The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America.  Sweet Sisters, Inc. has informed the FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the agency.
