FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 6, 2009 -- PANOS Brands, LLC (“PANOS”), of Saddle Brook, NJ is recalling #00112 KA-ME Green Tea Pumpkin Seed Snack Mix with the following Best Before Dates:

This product is being recalled because of the expanded recall notification from Peanut Corporation of America (“PCA”) and the possibility of contamination with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.  In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The product was sold directly to consumers from retail stores located nationwide.

The recalled product is packed in a 7.5 oz bag with the UPC Code 0 70844 00112 9 with the above mentioned Best Before Dates.  The Best Before Date is located on the back panel in black text.

PANOS’ voluntary recall is in response to the widening recall involving Peanut products supplied by PCA due to possible contamination with Salmonella.   Products distributed by PANOS under the Kame brand have NOT been linked to the nationwide Salmonella outbreak.

This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration.

Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call (800) 494-8839 ext. 15715.
