Ladon W. Abercrombie Recalls Honey Roasted And Fresh Roasted Peanuts Because Of Possible Health Risk

Ladon W. Abercrombie

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 5, 2009 -- Ladon W. Abercrombie is voluntarily recalling approximately 2,000 pounds of Honey Roasted and Fresh Roasted Peanuts.  These products are packaged in 2lb clear plastic bags and labeled as Abercrombie USA Grown Fresh Roasted Peanuts or Abercrombie USA Grown Honey Roasted Peanuts.   These peanuts, distributed to 7 retail establishments in Alabama between May 17, 2007 and June 4, 2008, were supplied by the Peanut Corporation of America in Blakely, Georgia and have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

No other Abercrombie peanuts are involved in this recall.  ALL Abercrombie peanuts distributed after June 4, 2008 are from a different supplier.

Ladon W. Abercrombie has not received any reports consumer illness associated with its products and is recalling these products as a precautionary measure.  Abercrombie is taking this precaution due to his commitment to customer safety and to providing USA Grown product of the highest quality.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product and have remaining product should destroy the product or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.  Consumers with questions may contact Abercrombie at 334-266-5777.
