Kariba Farms Announces Nationwide Recall of NutCrusters™ Thai Peanut

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 3, 2009 -- Kariba Farms, Inc., in Denville, NJ, is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its 5 oz. foil/plastic packed Thai Peanut NutCrusters Coating Mix. The Thai Peanut NutCrusters involved in this recall were distributed between the time of 4/25/2007 and 8/23/2007.  The 5 oz. packages have one of the following lot numbers on the back label: A7115, A7120, A7123, A7141, A7152, A7159, A7184, A7198, A7225; UPC Number 762851041525. Lot numbers other than those specified above are not involved in this recall as the peanut ingredients used in them were not received from a vendor involved with the Peanut Corporation of America’s Blakely, Georgia facility.  

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
