Dillon Candy Company Announces Voluntary Nationwide Recall of Peanut Rolls Due to Possible Health Risk

Tom Cook

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --Boston, GA -- February 03, 2009, Dillon Candy Company is voluntarily recalling its 3 oz. peanut rolls as a precaution due to the recall expansion of Peanut Corporation of America which includes oil roasted, salted peanuts processed at its Blakely, GA facility since Jan 01, 2007.  PCA is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into potential salmonella contamination of peanuts from its Blakely, GA facility.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.  For more information on salmonella, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention web site at http://www.cdc.gov.

The Peanut Rolls were distributed nationally through retail stores and mail orders.
The following product is subject to recall:
