The Office of Laboratory Science and Safety (OLSS) is working with our partners toward an FDA that serves as a model of excellence for both Laboratory Science and Safety (LS&S) and its workplace Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) programs. OLSS aims to establish FDA as the gold standard for safe practices and accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of laboratory results.

Towards this model of excellence and gold standard, OLSS:

  1. Strengthens safe and secure operations of FDA’s laboratories and workplaces to protect employees, the surrounding communities, and the environment
  2. Researches and disseminates innovative ideas and validated methods for safe and secure laboratory practices
  3. Supports implementation of a robust Laboratory Quality Management System in collaboration with the Centers and ORA to support high-quality (i.e., accurate, reliable, and timely) FDA laboratory results.
  4. Promotes a culture of shared responsibility and safety

OLSS will use this site to communicate and promote our latest strategies, initiatives, and activities, to our stakeholders. We invite you to check back often to learn more about policies, procedures, and practices that are focused on protecting the quality of our laboratory work and the health and safety of FDA employees as they carry out FDA’s critical public health mission.
