Sec. 390.500 Definition of "High Voltage Vacuum Switch" 21 CFR 1002.61(a)(3) and (b)(2) (CPG 7133.04)

BACKGROUND:

Inquiry has been received as to the definition of "high voltage vacuum switch".

POLICY:

A high voltage vacuum switch means any product employed to interrupt the flow of current by the use of one or more contacts operating under a reduced pressure and in which a voltage of greater than 5,000 volts is impressed across the contacts. Included in this definition are the switch itself and all devices which incorporate such a switch as a component, i.e., a switch gear or a vacuum bottle switch assembly.
