To: FDADockets@OHRM-MAIL@FDAOC From: Certify: N Subject: Restrictions on Compounding and Drug Assessibility Date: Wednesday, October 21, 1998 at 0:23:46 am EDT Attached: None I am a newcomer to the FDAMA legislation, and learned of it only after receiving an ominous letter from my pharmacist that FDAMA restrictions of the compounding of drugs could very well prevent procurement of my medication. I have progressive multiple sclerosis, and the only effective medication I take is 4-aminopyridine, which my pharmacist maintains he will be unable to compound after November. I truly hope this will not be the case. I hope that 4-AP will remain available to lessen the misery of the thousands like me who rely on this drug every day. From my graduate work, I appreciate the performance of the FDA in the face of so many competing pressures such as deregulation and privatization, and I hope patients' interests remain solidly in the forefront of its considerations. Sincerely, John Mohler Jr. Westmont, Illinois
