| Please require the use of simple labels on the front of processed foods that indicate by color the level of fat, sugar, salt, and calories per government-defined serving size. Please require food manufacturers to use the government defined serving size instead of making up their own serving size. For example, all beverages have a 240 ml government-defined serving size, but soda manufactures frequently label an entire 500 to 600 ml bottle as one serving. Younger people such as students eat diets low in fruits, vegetables, and dairy, and high in salt, sugars, and fat. Many students do not know what they should eat and should not eat. Simple labels on the front of the package, given using a common definition of serving size, will help educate the consumer and help provide a step forward in solving the national obesity epidemic.
