| My husband Harry Gonzalez was only 40 yrs. old. He was a father of 2. He committed suicide less than 10 ft. from our 3 yr. old son. This was a Sunday morning and most Sunday mornings this boy would wake him up. If we would have done our usual routine this innocent 3 yr. old would NOT have found his playful father sleeping. Instead he would have seen his fathers foot sticking out of the bedroom closet, assumed his fathers was now hiding from him in this closet, playing hide-and seek. Instead he would have found his father dead from a bullet wound in the middle of his forehead !
My husband was not a depressed man. He was prescribed Paxil for anxiety/panic attacks that had recently started and frightened him since there was no basis for a rapid heartbeat and worried thinking. We did not ask for this medicine. We spoke to our family physician about his symptoms and asked for something that could be taken on an as needed basis. My husband had taken klonapin over 10 yrs. ago for anxiety and we asked for this medication 3 seperate times but were told that this new medication would work. We were not told of ANY side effects or adverse effects. We were told it would take about a month to work. We were told to "go have fun". My husband believed in eating right, exercising and not taking pills unless absolutley necessary. We were together for 14 yrs. in all that time he was a stable loving person. He treated people fairly and received well earned respect from his co-workers family and friends. His mother, his son and daughter and his wife absolutley adored him. He was a "nice guy" ! 4 pills of Paxil is what it took for this man to so violently kill himself and leave behind people he knew loved him. There were no signs of aggravation during this time. Harry just got quiet and didn't mention any more anxiety symptoms. He ended his life by desecrating his face where his son could find him ! Imagine my surprise, after wondering "what the hell happened" and "what the hell was he thinking" and then learning about these pills. It may never be proven that the pills do this to certian individuals or all of them committing suicide while on them. Although it is your job to protect the public and take drugs off of the market that are dangerous. YOU HAVE HAD 15 OR MORE YEARS OF STORIES LIKE THIS ONE. Even if you do not believe all of them you have to believe in some of them. The public needs to be warned ! That's what people from the 1991 FDA hearing told you . How could you have let so many unsuspecting people take this junk ? How many lives have been devastated ? MOSTLY how many times have you heard this same thing ?
