The scientific evidence is overwhelming. Even the EPA recognizes that mercury outside the human mouth is very toxic and makes dentists disposed of it very carefully. Therefore, it must follow that mercury inside the mouth must be toxic. You can't have it both ways. Anyway, this is a big snafu that many countries around the world have already recognized.
