GENERAL
GENERAL
This joint committee will review and discuss peer-reviewed scientific
literature on dental amalgam devices. Dental amalgam, also called
'encapsulated amalgam,' consists of dental mercury and amalgam alloys. This
joint committee will review and discuss peer-reviewed scientific literature
on dental amalgam and its potential mercury toxicity, specifically as it
relates to neurotoxic effects.

I strongly recommend against the use of mercury amalgams and hope that your
committee will do likewise. There are now many inert and non-toxic composite
materials available to mosts dentists that serve as fillings just as well
and without the risk of the neurotoxicity associated with mercury.

Sincerely,

William Harris, M.D.
