I am writing in response to the public hearings that are schedule in September for mercury dental fillings. I am sure there are far more qualified individuals in the medical field than I am to speak on the harmful effects of mercury fillings. However, I am convinced that they are toxic to everyone's health. How soon people feel the negative neuro-toxin effects depends on many physiological factors as well as how many fillings are in the mouth. I do know that over time as the body ages and becomes more susceptible to these toxins, they manifest in many debilitating ways. In some people the effects happen much sooner. Many honest and conscientious dentists and doctors would acknowledge the effects they have witnessed if they could do so without prejudice. Mercury has always been known as a neurotoxin so why is the dental profession continuting to put this heavy metal in people's mouths? It is the responsibility of the American Dental Association and dental practitioners to inform people of these effects and stop ignoring a serious problem. There are many alternatives to mercury fillings that are available and which are non-toxic. Neither price nor profit should be driving these decisions, but social responsibility.
