The way the changes read now indicates the vessels are to be used in organ transplant only. I believe consideration should be given to specific verbage to include recipients from living-related, living-non-related, and cadaveric donors. For example, if a kidney recipient, whose donor was living and related, requires additional surgery to repair a throbosed renal artery, can a surgeon use vessels from a cadaveric donor for the repair? More specific definitions of the type of transplant recipient may avoid confusion and conflict between operating room administrators and transplant surgeons as they adjust their policies to comply with this new regulation.
