I am a nutritionist and I want to comment on this draft:

Consumers tend to be confused as to what to eat. I fully agree that whole grains need to be defined and clarified. I believe this document takes several steps toward that goal. However, I do not agree that flax, soy, and barley should be slighted. Yes, technically, flax is a seed and soy is a legume but the comsumer deals in general terms. If a package becomes too technical it becomes confusing.

Many times a day I am asked: "What should I eat?" If I was to say to someone that they should eat whole grains but by the way flax and soy are not grains and barley is only considered whole if it hulled....you see the added confusion.

My plea to you as the governing agengy is to please allow flax, soy, and barley to be considered as whole grains as long as they are intact.

Whole grains are great let's include as many as are possible.

Thank you for your time.
