| Dear Sir Madam,
I am a Board Certified Anethesiologist, in practice since 1980. I oppose the administration of Propofol (Diprivan) by non-anesthesiologis. The use of anesthetic drugs does not simply entail the administration of the substance nor familiarity with the side effects. The safe use of these drugs requires skills in the management of the airway and oxygenation of the patient under emergency conditions. I have yet to meet a gastroeenterologist with the requisite skills to do so. In addition, I have on several occasions had to rescue patients who had stopped breathing or had serious side effects as a result of anesthetic drugs being used by non-anesthesiologists. As a result of my experiences and that of my colleagues, I urge you to reject petition # 2005P-0267.
