| Dear Friends,
I am a family practice doctor in Alexandria, Virginia. I was informed by a colleague of this venue for commenting on direct to consumer advertising by the pharmaceutical industry.
I ask that you please be as restrictive as possible on any health or science claims. It is embarrassing and harmful to the community of health professionals, as well as the FDA itself, when false claims surface. For example, the idea that antidepressants correct a "chemical imbalance" has been claimed on many ads, but this is a hypothesis or, at best, a theory.
