| Allowing drug companies to advertise directly to consumers has been a disaster. Millions of people are now asking for, and being prescribed, drugs that do not help their conditions, and in far too many cases cause side effects that make them worse. This has created an explosion in medical care costs, both for the original drugs and for treating the subsequent side-effects of those drugs. These costs are borne by all of us, both as taxpayers paying for government medical programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, and as individuals and businesses paying for the costs of medical insurance.
Drug advertising should be restricted to medical journals, as it was before the 1990's. All direct drug advertising to consumers, whether through tv, magazines or any other medium, should be banned. Sincerely, Lucy Cole
