| As a sexually active woman, I feel that it is my right to protect myself from unwanted pregnancy. I know from fact that, despite all efforts to practice safer sex, accidents can happen. I am sexually responsible, but condoms break, hormones are not 100% effective, and emergency contraception can prevent possible pregnancies, as well as ease a scared woman's mind. Emergency contraception IS NOT ABORTION. It is not killing off a child, it is a prevention of cells attaching to the uterine wall. Providing over the counter emergency contraception will be beneficial to countless numbers of women. For some, it is hard to get to their doctor to get a prescription. Or, they may be nervous about going in with such a complaint. Accessibility is key. Abortions are invasive, stressful, and expensive. If we can prevent women from going through this by making a pill more easily accessible, then I see little reason for any political or governmental group to oppose such an act. Why should we have to put a woman through something as extensive and stressful as abortion or unwanted pregnancy because she was unlucky to have a faulty condom, or miss a pill.
This pill has little to no side effects-no more than those a woman experiences during her menstrual cycle. It is un-invasive and safe. Please take these testimonies into consideration when making your decision. Passing over the counter emergency contraception will be enormously beneficial to our entire society, both directly and indirectly. thank you.
(side-note) I think, when making polls for the general public, one should consider the terminology used in your questions. If you truly are attempting to get the public's voice on issues affecting them, it should be in a vernacular that can be generally understood. Thank you for this opportunity to speak out on behalf of the millions of woman who will benefit from this option.
