| Attention FDA Docket # 205N-0279: As a medical professional I represent hundreds of people in Western Michigan who suffer with Celiac Disease. To have gluten-free status on a food label would help individuals identify "safe" foods for their consumption. At the present the industry has not been supportive to those with celiac disease. Numerous hours have to be spent contacting each vendor for safety of product consumption, as well as attempting to decipher labels now. To have gluten-free status listed on labels would be most helpful to us suffering from Celiac Disease- intolerence to gluten. I would readily purchase a product that stated it was gluten free.
Presently very few products are listed as gluten-free and then only in health food stores where the costs are quite high but people often pay the price because of the GLUTEN FREE label -- a label they can trust. As a celiac, I also know that the presence of ANY GLUTEN in a product is dangerous to my health and must know that the product is 100% GLUTEN-FREE. There is no minimal or trace amounts of gluten that are safe for our consumption. The gluten free status on the label will assure us of 100% safety. We appreciate this food allergen coming forward. It has taken a long time and we are grateful to provide our comments.
