Re: Docket No. 2005N-0065
Risk Assessment on the Public Health Impact from Foodborne Listeria monocytogenes in Smoked Finfish; and Evaluation of Food Code Provisions that Address Preventive Controls for Listeria monocytogenes in Retail and Foodservice Establishments; Request for Comments and for Scientific Data and Information
The National Fisheries Institute and the Food Products Association wish to provide the Agency with comment and scientific data on the above referenced docket on risk assessment for L. monocytogenes in smoked fish. We are working with researchers at Cornell University to assemble data from an ongoing project, as well as attempting to set up a meeting of the associations collaborative Smoked Seafood Working Group to determine the availability of additional information relevant to the risk assessment. However, because of the time required to obtain input from our industry members and to collate currently available information, we are requesting an extension for submission of comments of about 60 days until July 5, 2005.
In the meantime, we offer the accompanying peer-reviewed articles, many of which are the product of the associations'collaborative Smoked Seafood Working Group, while we gather additional information.
