| To protect the national food supply, I believe it's NOT responsible or prudent to release cloned food into our food supply. This is a valuable resource and once it's tainted it would be impossible to correct. The relation to our food and our health is on a downward spiral. People may be living longer but not necessarily in good health. It seems to me that the FDA would better use their resources to secure and improve the quality of our food supply than further corrupt it.
I am not in favor of cloned food. I wasn't in favor of bio-engineered plant products either. Once it's released into the environment and the market, from a consumer level, there is no way to know what you're buying and protect yourself from it. And based on past experiences, I don't have enough faith in the integrity and honesty of corporations, beginning with farmers, to believe labeling. It only takes one person in the chain to corrupt the entire product. And how can it be monitored and controlled? As a consumer how can I monitor it myself at my home? If I personally choose not to ingest cloned food and pay extra for products claiming to not contain them, how can I protect myself and know that is what I have purchased without building a lab on the back of my home?
On a certain level, I believe this takes away my freedom of choice. I firmly believe this is a bad idea. Please do not allow it.
