Subject: Docket 02P0462 Carbolite
I am a registered dietitian and a certified diabetes educator.  The nutrition claims requested by Carbolite are of great concern to me as they are misleading to people with diabetes.  Please review the label carefully before approving this request.  You will find total carbohydrates listed correctly but an additional box with Net Carbohydrate Effect has led people with diabetes to take incorrect insulin doses and/or have uncontrolled blood sugars from diet control due to underestimating the carbohydrate impact on blood sugars.  A number of my patients have alerted me to this problem, motivating me to look further and discover this fda request.  Thank you for your attention.
