From: Hal Katz [hkatz@naturesbest.com] Sent: Friday, December 13, 2002 3:01 PM To: fdadockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: Docket No. 02P-0462 Comment regarding Docket No. 02P-0462 Carbolite as a brand name gives the manufacturer the implied right to use the word "lite" on it's package while every other manufacturer must abide by regulations in order to qualify to use that same word. Needless to say, if two manufacturers made similar product, and both appealed to the consumer interested in limiting carbohydrate intake, the Carbolite brand would have an enormous advantage. Furthermore, the company would be able to sell high carbohydrate products and make them seem as though they were appropriate for people on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. This could create confusion for the customer. There is enough confusion and misrepresentation in our industry already. Adding a brand named Carbolite clearly could add to this undesirable state. If the company makes products that are entitled to use the word lite, they should use it. They should never have the right to use that description if it does not apply to the product they are making.
