As a livestock producer, I feel this proposed legislation is unnecessary. The US livestock industry is 239 years old and at the prsent time, we have a population of over 100 million ruminant animals. Over this period of time we have had 2 cases of BSE. one of which was imported from Canada. The passage of this legislation requiring the removal of the brain and spinal cords from ruminants going for by-product feed to non-food animals like pet feeds.\, woould cause rendering service companies to stop collecting the carcasses of large farm animals. This would cause danger of disease, contamination of surface and ground water, draw predators, and cause odor and aesthetic problems in our beautiful countryside. I would hope that these regulations would not change to cause this hindrance to the nation's livestock industry.
Sincerely,
Farris Beasley DVM
