| As a psychiatrist and Family Medicine physician, I have seen a significant share of ill children and adolescents, both physically & mentally. I have seen several patients who have no earthly reason to be on SSRI medications and I have had to "mop" up some patients' lives after an adverse reaction to her/his antidepressant. On the other hand, I have seen dramatic and positive effects from these same medicines for select patients of mine and others. I would opine that these medications be kept available for physicians to prescribe but add the caveat that by prescribing these drugs, the physician must in good conscience perform a mental status exam and then be held to that standard (with the proper documentation). Although this may not differ from the standard of care already established, I believe that these changes must be iterated clearly to remind the medical community at large. Thank you. cmorache | |||||||||||||||||||||||
