Prior Notice of Imported Food Under the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparadness and response Act of 2002; Reopening of Comment Period.
The Government of the Argentine Republic submits the following comments on the regulation of the above reference Act.
1. The Government of the Argentine Republic supports the efforts carried out by the United States in its struggle against international terrorism, through laws and procedures which increase security levels for the international community.
2. With reference to the proposal of Joint FDA-Customs Plan for Increasing Integration and Assessing the Coordination of Prior Notice Timeframes, the Government of the Argentine Republic deems appropriate to coordinate the different administrative procedures by centralizing information in order to minimize procedures and costs for argentine firms.
3. Nevertheless, we note that maritime transportation has not been taken into account. We would appreciate information on the reasons that led to this exclusion.
4. In reference to the process of reducing timeframes for prior notice, the Government of the Argentine Republic considers that this process must be followed by appropriate communication and training for small businesses, taking into account the fact that measures reducing timeframes could cause additional costs to that group of enterprises.
