 I would encourage consideration of the qualified health claim for lutein, rather than lutein esters. Regardless of the source, free lutein is the key bioactive agent in dietary supplements, lutein-enhanced foods and foods naturally containing lutein. 



Applying the qualified health claim to lutein would better serve the nutritional needs of consumers as it would include all lutein-containing foods and supplements, including foods and products containing lutein esters.
