I applaud the FDA for this important patient safety initiative. My comments are from my perspective as medication safety officer in an acute car hospital. Please understand that bar coding will enable drug product identification/validation in bedside computer clinical systems by caregivers who administer medications to patients, and thus it is essential that ALL products must bear a bar code. For the sake of patient safety, please resist any industry pressure to exempt any packaging from the bar code requirement.
