Hershey's Cocoa - (privacy) called to tell us both her children with peanut allergy reacted to this product. Her daughter is more severely allergic than her son. She made cocoa for them using this product. Her daughter took a sip or two and wouldn't drink any more. Her son drank his whole cup. Within a few minutes both experienced swelling of the tongue and eyes, and post-nasal drip. She still has the remaining cocoa. Post Strawberry Blasted Honeycomb Cereal - (privacy) called to report that her 6-year-old son, allergic to tree nuts, had an allergic reaction. He ate a handful of dry cereal, and after 5 minutes complained that his throat was hurting. About 5 minutes later he said his throat really hurt, and when (privacy) looked, she saw that he had hives and blisters all around his neck, and he was wheezing. She gave him Benadryl and he got better. She still has the remaining cereal. Aunt Millie's All Natural Split Top Potato Bread - this e-mail is from (privacy): My daughter is severely allergic to dairy and to eggs. She is now two and a half years old and I have been feeding her the same kind of bread since she was about 15 months old. I went to the grocery store today to purchase some of it and as I always read the ingredients to check to make sure the ingredients haven't changed, I was dismayed to find that they had started adding "whey" to this bread. The brand and specific type is:Aunt Millie's All Natural Split Top Potato Bread. When I got home I checked the package we already had here and actually found that "whey" was also listed on that package (I must have missed it the last time I checked!) and she has been having some recent wheezing and hive breakouts, which her doctor had attributed to something else, but now I am not so sure what was the cause. Anyway, I am not sure when exactly they changed the ingredients in this bread but there was no marking that the ingredients had been changed. Archway Iced Molasses Cookies - this e-mail is from (privacy): Recently purchased Archway Cookies: Iced Molasses Cookies and ate one. Had an immediate anaphylactic reaction; checked the ingredient list..."fish gelatin." I am DEATHLY allergic to fish; but who would think to look for FISH in a cookie!!??? Jay's Shoe Strings - (privacy) called to tell us her 2-year-old son, who is allergic to peanut, milk, and wheat, had a reaction. He broke out in bumps all over his body and his right eye was swollen. She gave him Benadryl and the symptoms subsided. When she called the manufacturer she said they were rude and told her that peanut oil is the 23rd ingredient on one of the spices. Spices are not listed on the label individually, nor is the word "spices". Duchess Honey Buns by Carolina Foods, Inc. - (privacy) called to tell us that there is no warning on the outside label of this multi-pack, but the individually-wrapped packages inside say "Produced on the same equipment as products containing milk, egg, and soy". Hutchinson's Candy Maple Caramel Corn - (privacy) called to tell us she had a reaction. Peanut is not listed as an ingredient, and there is no warning. She was eating this product and got near the bottom of the bag when she felt a different texture in her mouth. She spit it out and found a half-eaten peanut. She had an allergic reaction and had to go to the emergency room in an ambulance. _______________________________________ Debbie Scherrer, Member Communications The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network 10400 Eaton Place, Suite 107 Fairfax, VA 22030 1-800-929-4040 Phone: 703-691-3179 Fax: 703-691-2713 http://www.foodallergy.org/ _______________________________________
