From: The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network [faan@foodallergy.org] Sent: Tuesday, September 03, 2002 1:43 PM To: Satchell, Felicia B Subject: FAAN Product-Related Member Calls, August 26-30, 2002 As always, everyone who calls FAAN about a product is instructed to call the manufacturer if they haven't already done so. Krispy Kreme Glazed Devil's Food Doughnuts - (privacy) called to tell us she purchased a box of these doughnuts. There were no egg ingredients listed on the label but she called the manufacturer because it listed natural and artificial flavors. They told her the product contains egg yolk. Duncan Hines Bakery Style Muffins, Wild Maine Blueberry - (privacy) called to tell us her 11-year-old son, allergic to milk, egg, tree nuts, banana, fish, and shellfish, had a reaction. None of these ingredients are listed on the package. She made the muffins using soy milk and egg replacer. He ate one muffin and was okay, then ate a second muffin an hour and a half later. Immediately after the second muffin he had diarrhea and rapid heartbeat. She gave him Benadryl and albuterol and stood by with the EpiPen but did not use it. When she reported the reaction to Duncan Hines she was told the mix is made on the same line as products containing nuts. She has frozen the remaining muffins. Ritz Crackers - this e-mail is from (privacy): I purchased a box of original Nabisco Ritz Crackers approximately a month ago at Better Val-U Supermarket in Lisbon, CT. I opened them today to give them to my son's and it was the new Cheese Ritz Crackers in the box instead of the Original Ritz Crackers! So, the wrong crackers got put in the wrong box. _______________________________________ Debbie Scherrer, Member Communications The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network 10400 Eaton Place, Suite 107 Fairfax, VA 22030 1-800-929-4040 Phone: 703-691-3179 Fax: 703-691-2713 http://www.foodallergy.org/ _______________________________________
