I would like to see ephedra banned entirely. It is a health risk for obese teenagers, who are already at risk for developing hyperglycemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Ephedra accentuates this risk. It is difficult to get children to avoid this toxic substance, when it is freely available over the counter. This substance has already been banned by several sports organizations. It is about time that it is totally banned by the US government. I am board certified in pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology, and I consider ephedra to be a health threat for my patient population.
