My background is in public health, in particular, I worked at a Planned Parenthood clinic for over 2 years. I was not aware there was a public belief Non-9 would reduce the risk of HIV/STD transmission. Did many people think that?
Nonetheless, I think it is a great idea to add a warning statement on such products. The more public/consumer education the better!
My only concern regarding the proposed labeling is spelling out possible symptoms of vaginal irritation. Sometimes, that feeds a person's paranoia. However, it does also read no symptoms may be present. But some people would read a list of symptoms and then think they HAVE HIV because they see HIV and vaginal irritation in the same paragraph.
All-in-all, I think the labeling is an effective means of helping reduce the spread of HIV and other STDs.
