Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I own my own nutritional consulting business in Guerneville,CA. I am a certified Nutritional Therapist and have been using and recommending natural products for several years. The passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 greatly improved consumer access to dietary supplements and information. Ephedra, when used for specific sinus conditions, can be a thereapeutic agent. However, this is not how it is generally used by the public. I believe Ephedra should be regulated. I am concerned that the FDA will not stop with regulatory laws for Ephedra. I believe the agency can regulate Ephedra without completely dismantling DSHEA. DSHEA actually increased the FDA's ability enforcement powers to remove a dietary supplement, like Ephedra, if it presents a significant risk of illness or injury. No other legislative authority is necessary or required. Please leave DSHEA intact, while removing one potentially harmful dietary supplement, Ephedra. Sincerely, Anne Fischer, CNT
