It is my sincere hope that the Ma Huang and any other herbs found to contain ephedrine alkaloids are kept non-prescription and available. Appropriate labeling is, of course, necessary. Ma huang, when used correctly, generally for lung conditions, not for weight loss, is a fairly safe and very effective herb. The public needs to continue to be educated about the proper and safe use of herbs and dietary supplements. Ma Huang is not any more dangerous than the OTC cold and flu formulas already on the market. Please promote education and meanful labeling rather than restricting access to herbs and dietary supplements. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Rylen Feeney Diplomate of Chinese Herbs and Asian Bodywork Therapy (NCCAOM)
