Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I am an obstetrician/gynecologist in Ohio, age 50, and have both used an ephedra containing product intermittently over the past four years, as well as had supervisory experience with my patients with such herbal products. Many of them had been extremely frustrated with their inability to lose much weight, or had serious side effects with other herbal weight loss products. Biolean and Biolean-free have been for the most part very well tolerated in my patients' efforts to control their appetites, and as an exerise enhancer of thermogenesis. I have monitored my patients in most cases while they have been consuming products. I have seen no serious side effects if patients are screened for contraindications before starting these products. I think that these products should remain available to the general public, but each person needs to consider their own personal health history, and use the safest products on the market. Although many of my peers are skeptical about the safety of ephedra-containing products, most have no experience with them personally or through their patients, and have not seen the patients' before and after health stories. I am in favor of keeping them available to my patients and believe in their efficacy and safety in the vast majority of cases. Dr. Michael Draznik
