Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments With reference to Docket No. 1N-0423, I feel it is important that the FDA move quickly to mandate the removal of mammalian protein from ruminant feedstuffs and thereby fall into compliance with EU regulations for the export of embryos from the US to EU countries. This is an important issue to US cattle breeders and exporters for the following reasons: 1 - It is a firm and positive move on the part of FDA to demonstrate to the public a commitment to avoiding any TSE outbreak in the US. 2 - The elimination of blood products from ruminant feed has little negative economic impact on feed industry or livestock producer. 3 The loss of the European marketplace for US genetics in the form of embryos has had a large economic impact on the US livestock producer and other businesses involved with the production and export of embryos. Sincerely, Daniel R. Hornickel, DVM Christopher L. Keim, DVM Sunshine Genetics, Inc.
