I am a thoughtful person who is not prone to political rabelrousing. However, the notion of genetically modified foods is profoundly disturbing. The long-term consequences seem to be unfathomable. Therefore, I feel strongly that we need: 1. long term safety testing of gm products 2. environmental review of crops 3. mandatory labeling 4. absolute, unconditional right of non gm products to label themselves "non genetically modified" 5. public announcement in daily newspapers of gm seed plantings and food products at producers expense Man has a pretty dismal history of tinkering with nature. Perhaps the upcoming extinction of the salmon, a by-product of hydroelectric/irrigation dams, sheds some light on the foresight humans tend to use when they get "big ideas." To what extent is the FDA being pressured by lobbyists? Can you personally assure me that crucial life systems will not be undermined? Considering the risks, perhaps the FDA can take a deep breath and locate some integrity. I am very motivated to write investigative pieces on the process by which these "genetically modified" FDA regulations are passed into law. I will personally pay for a billboard bearing the images of the FDA bureaucrats responsible if these reckless GM regulations are instituted. Thank you for your time. Timothy Ford
