It is very important to me to know what is in the food I feed my family. My children and I have food allergies and I read food labels very carefully. Several times my children have had a reaction to something in a food that wasn't listed. That's concerning. But the fact that genetically engineered foods are also in foods that are not labeled is just plain irresponsible. People with health concerns need to know what they're eating. We need choice. I also urge the FDA to be vigilent in pre-market testing of genetically engineered foods. Not doing so puts our entire population and environment at risk. Once the genie is out of the bottle, so to speak, it will be hard to put back in. Therefore, vigilence is due now! I join many others in asking you to keep all genetically engineered indgredients and crops off the market unelss or until: 1) independent safety tesing demonstrates they have no harmful effects on human health or the environment; 2) they are labeled to ensure consumers choice! 3) the biotechnology corporations that produce them are held responsible for any harms they may cause. Sincerely, Linda M. Hellow Centennial, CO
