Dear FDA,
 
Last spring our church sponsored a symposium on genetically engineered 
 foods. We had speakers from both sides of the question, all of them 
committed, responsible, and extremely knowledgeable. I came away more 
convinced than ever that genetically engineered foods are NOT necessary to 
the process of feeding the world, NOT a healthy alternative, NOT produced 
with far reaching consequences well considered, and NOT adequately tested. 
There are literally hundreds of products that I'm now frightened of using 
in my kitchen because they may, or may not, include genetically altered 
corn or soy. I have a five year old son. Will I one day have to watch him 
die a horrible death because I was uninformed? Will I be a party to what 
may result in virtual genocide of poor, third world nations forced to 
consume products from this country that have been manufactured with profit 
margin a primary consideration? Not if there's one damn thing I can do 
about. And this is my one thing.

Take these products off the market. Require (with strictest penalties) 
that all such products be labeled and that full disclosure be mandatory. 
Encourage community gardens, organic farming, sustainable agriculture—NOT 
corporate greed. Please do this. Those of us on this end of the food 
supply must rely on you to make the right choice. Please be responsible to 
me and my family.
