From: Ron Flora [wordform@lisco.com] Sent: Monday, March 26, 2001 1:29 PM To: fdadockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: Docket 00N-1396 & Docket 00D-1598 I find the FDA's proposed rules regarding genetically engineered foods entirely inadequate to insure consumer safety. We simply do not have enough information to go down this road without carefully considering the impact of genetically engineered foods on the human physiology. We are already hearing about the negative effects of long-term indiscriminate use of antibiotics on disease control and with genetic engineering the implications could be cataclysmic. Like atomic power, the risk reward ratio is difficult to ascertain without adequate long term testing and a national debate. Surely the reaction in Europe has not escaped your attention. I will be contcting my senators and representative in regard to this matter, expressing my strong concerns. Sincerely, Ronald R Flora
