I want to have a choice whether I buy food that has been genetically engineered or not and without mandatory labeling I don't. The only safe food choice for me is organic foods. I am asking the FDA to require mandatory labeling of foods that have genetically engineered ingredients. I am afraid. I have asthma and allergies and my health is at stake when I do not know what ingredients I am eating. I have been hospitalized for asthma and it is critical that I know what I am eating. Mandatory labeling is the only way I can ensure my health. There should be independent safety testing that conclusively proves that genetically engineered ingredients have no harmful effects on human health or the environment. Without this testing, my health, the health of my family and all the other consumers in this country's health is at risk. And the FDA has no idea what effect this technology will have on our food supply and the health of the earth. Pre-market testing must be done. One of the basic foundations of being a citizen of our country is freedom of choice. I urge the FDA to require mandatory labeling of genetically engineered ingredients and mandatory pre-market testing of genetically engineered foods. Thank you for your time.
