Why are these companies more important than your children and mine? I am a victim of fibromyalgia and quite aware of nutritional problems. I know when additives make me sick. If labels on GE foods are required in Europe, Japan, and Russia, why do you think we need less protection? Why should we be the guinea pigs? You don't protect us and that is what your department is about. You are lying if you pretend that we know the long term results of food with features to fight bugs and plant disease. We are biological creatures, too. We at least have the right in america should have the right to know what is in our food. Labels must be required to protect the public from potential health effects that could only be traced if GE foods can be identified, yet FDA's "voluntary labeling" guidelines will leave thousands of unlabeled GE foods on our supermarket shelves. Your recommendation fails to require any safety testing. Doctors and scientists have warned about the potential for GE foods for allergies, change the nutritional value of foods, make the foods undigestible to humans and cause irreversible harm to the environment. Our children are at risk! I urge you to reconsider this proposal and insure that GE foods are subject to pre-market testing and labeling. Americans deserve the same protections as the rest of the world. Libby Albright 228 Ximeno ave Long Beach, CA 90803 USA libbyincal@mindspring.com
