From: ANAMC54@aol.com Sent: Friday, March 23, 2001 10:40 PM To: fdadockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: "Docket 00N-1396 & Docket 00D-1598" Dear Sirs at the FDA: As a consumer who treasures my rights to know what I am eating, I would like to voice my total dislike of the rules you are imposing on us, mainly rules that: * Do not require mandatory pre-market safety testing * Do not require pre-market environmental review * Do not require mandatory labeling of GE foods * Restrict voluntary labeling of non-GE foods * Require a mere letter of notification prior to the marketing of a GE food * Fail to ensure public access to adequate information for independent review * Are supported by industry and opposed by consumer groups We have the right to know what is in the products we consume and use. So please stop playing the industry game, allowing them to force feed us what we do not want, and respect our right to know and choose what we ingest and use. If we knew what the consequences were of all these new discoveries it would be a different case, but we don't and better safe than sorry. Have you never stopped to ponder why all of a sudden, in the past 10-20 years we have had such an onset of diseases all over the world. One reason that comes to my mind is the world wide use of pesticides and chemicals... Please consider this petition, which I know speaks for many. Thank you, Sincerely, Ana Maria
