Dear Ms. Henney , I would like to begin by stating that I am in support of genetically engineered food. Products such as golden rice seem to be able to make a huge difference to the people of the world. However, I believe that food that has been genetically altered SHOULD BE SUBJUCTED TO THE NECESSARY TESTING BEFORE BEING PUT ON THE MARKET. Without this precaution, I believe that the health of consumers is being severely risked. Because these foods are relatively new, there is currently not enough evidence to show that they may not have serious health risks. Furthermore, there should also be mandatory labeling of genetically engineered food. If this does not take place, then consumers who would rather not partake in the consumption of genetically engineered food have no choice in the matter. THIS IS WRONG. If labeling is not mandatory, few or no companies will choose to label their foods, not wanting to risk rejection by consumers. However, CONSUMERS SHOULD HAVE A RIGHT TO REJECT THESE PRODUCTS, if they should so choose. Thank you for your time, and I hope that in making this decision you choose in favor of the people of my generation and those to come.
