Dear FDA,
 
As a strong supporter of organic foods grown and processed within my region 
 of the country, I am shocked by the proposed legislation concerning 
genetically engineered foods.  I am currently a Cornell University student 
and recent studies within the agriculture department of my university have 
shown a strong relation between genetically altered foodstuffs and effects 
on organism growth and health.  Further, the reckless labeling of GE foods 
as organic with no requirement for TRUTH IN LABELLING on the part of the 
manufacturer, truly confuses the consumer and does not offer the necessary 
information for an individual to make informed, healthy choices in food 
purchase.  

I urge you to subject genetic foods to further investigation in the face 
of compelling scientific evidence that there is a potential for negative 
effects.  I propose that GE foods be made available, but labelling must 
reflect their true nature and content so the consumer can choose to use, 
or to pass on these goods until they have withstood proper scrutiny and 
the "test of time" as far as biological and physioligical effects.  To do 
otherwise at this point is to rush questionable products to market, driven 
by the pressure of industry.  The people are on your side, and we support 
you, we only ask that you represent our interests fully on this important 
issue.
