I wish to register my *strong* opposition to the idea of allowing producers and distributors of genetically engineered (GE) foods to voluntarily label their products. Since the foods are not equivalent and are capable of introducing food allergens via gene splicing, the consumer ought to have the right to know what they are buying to introduce into their bodies.
The notion that a consumer who wants to avoid these products must track all offerings to the market is patently absurd. The only way to allow the citizenry to make an informed choice about these products is to *require* producers/distributers to identify the presence of genetically engineered materials in their products.
I implore you to put the welfare of the individual ahead of the agribusiness interests. Thank you for your consideration.
