I urge this for both ethical and practical reasons. For one thing the downed animals arriving at the slaughterhouses suffer unspeakable pain and cruelty. For another, allowing these animals to enter the food chain poses a serious potential health risk. With proper care and handling the greater percentage of downed animals could be prevented and removing the market for these animals would certainly be an incentive for industry to prevent downed animals in the first place.
