My objections are as follows: 1/ I have a right to decide what I eat and I have a right to decide how I spend my dollars, based on my own moral and personal judgements. By allowing food producers to withhold information about ingredients (as in "voluntary" labelling), you deny me this most basic human liberty. 2/ Should ANY future genetically engineered product prove hazardous to a person's health, it would be difficult for health workers to know. Without mandatory labelling, there is a potential for a harmful ingredient to spread throughout the market undetected. I personally find it hard to believe that GE organisms will NEVER be a threat to health or to the enviroment. Indeed, some of them already have! Please change your policies and make labelling mandatory. Allow me to decide what I eat. If the food producers are so concerned to keep me as a customer let them produce food I will buy, rather than deceive me about their products. Sincerely, Monique Harrison
